This week I had the chance to complete a few chapters of my book that I am doing my book report on; mentoring is something that acts as a learning mechanism. We all had a mentor growing up; a teacher is considered a mentor by passing down information which can benefit the student in their future. A mentor is an individual, usually older, always more experienced, who helps and guides another individual’s development. This guidance is not done for personal gain. I was a mentor ( Big Brother) I enjoyed taking a youngster under my wing and teaching him how to act in public, someone that they can talk to, or even if it’s just helping them with homework.

I always enjoy your posts! Even though this is a shorter one, I appreciate you sharing the definition for mentoring that you found in your book. It's great that you were a mentor before, and I am sure that that has helped you with this class. What book are you reading for your book report if you don't mind me asking?

  2. Hi Percy!
I like what you said about mentors' "helps and guides another individual's development...and is not for "personal gain". To me this reminds me that we are learning about others to help them in ways that they can learn and grow and how important to stay student centered in this process. I also love that you have been a Big Brother. It seems like you have a passion for kids, and the way you describe being there for the child in whatever ways they need is powerful. What a gift you have given! Have an awesome day! Christina

  3. Thanks, so I believe that being a mentor or volunteering your time have to come from the heart. Imagine someone who volunteer at a elementary school and not willing to work with the students in a well respectable manner. The individual will have a horrible time...
